Progress for Oct. 05.
Here we have the cab all painted, with bins of "small parts" waiting for a turn.
Red Oxide Primer (Gillespie product I got from Rapco.) Good primer.

I painted the frame, underside of the cab, fenders, and running boards with Gillespie WWII Lusterless "Khaki" Olive Drab #34087 from Rapco.

The light, almost sand color, on the body is Krylon's flat Khaki #8141… actually, the spray cans are #8141. I ordered 4 quart sized cans of it via my local Sherwin Williams dealer (Ultra Flat Khaki KDQ5291) to spray with my paint gun. My plan is to use the spray cans to touch up as needed. Rapco also offers a Sand colored flat military Gillespie paint, but I decided to use the Krylon product since I can always pick up another spray can at the local hardware store.

I've discovered that Rustolium's Flat Camo Khaki (I don't have the stock number handy) is identical to the Krylon, so that's useful. The Krylon/Rustolium "Khaki" is a little lighter than I had hoped it would be, but I've done enough Olive Drab trucks and wanted a change.

The Krylon is an oil based, outdoor, fade resistant paint. My sprayer seemed to work well with a 1/3 Xylene mix. I had my local Sherwin Williams store order it in. I don't think they charged me any extra for shipping; I just had to wait for one of the regular deliveries. Here's an email from Krylon listing the available camouflage paint in the quart size:

"From: askkrylon@sherwin.com SUBJECT: Camouflage (brush-out) The Krylon brush-out Camouflage Outdoor Oil Paint System is available in quart-sized containers only. There are four colors available: KDQ5290 Black, KDQ5291 Khaki, KDQ5292 Brown, KDQ5293 Olive Drab.

The best way to locate current stock is to contact the Krylon Where-To-Buy Line at 1-800-247-3268 (press option #4 for dealer locations). The Krylon Where-To-Buy Line can track all stores, vendors, distribution centers, etc. that have purchased/ordered the particular color/product within the last six months. This will allow the Krylon Where-To-Buy agent to pinpoint the closest store to your location with current stock. This should make your search much easier. Wal-Mart, K-Mart, ACE Hardware, Sherwin Williams, Michael's, Joanne Etc, and Hobby Lobby Stores tend to carry the best selection of the Krylon Product Line. Additionally, we distribute the Krylon Product Line through: Tru-Value, Sears, Menards, Scottys, Do-It-Best and select local paint/hardware store. However, these stores generally do not carry the full line.

Thanks,

Jared "

All that isn't intended as an ad for Krylon, just some detail for those who might want to try the same paint.

Taffy relaxing in the garage… paint tent is down now.
Motor painted in light gray or smoke… but I ran out of this light "Ford Gray" and couldn't find a match. I had the spray can left over from my Carryall restoration some years ago and found it in CA… couldn't find an equivalent at my local hardware stores, so I switched to another gray. I'll correct the issue when the engine gets a proper rebuild in the next year or so.
Cab going back on!
Radiator in place and hooked up.
Forgot to do the head gasket while I had the cab off, Keaton helped me with it after.
Time to run the truck! Jerry can up front supplies fuel, and the exhaust is routed forward via flex exhaust pipe. It ran pretty well, still some blow by on the rings seen from the oil filler when the cap is off, but even this might be solved with a PCV valve (this early motor just has a vent, no "positive" crankcase ventilation.)
Taffy gets a ride! I knew she didn't have much time left, so we mickey-moused a muffler, hot wired the ignition, hooked up the oil pressure gage, sat on a blanket, and stopped it with the hand brake… but Taffy seemed to enjoy it and she'll always be remembered when we take the truck out for a ride.

Then the kids needed a ride, so we did a couple more runs up and down the street. Lots of detail work left to do, but I put the truck away for a while to concentrate on household projects and just life in general with a large and young family.

Taffy just had a couple weeks left at this point. The vet made a house call for us and she died peacefully with her family around her. She's buried by the garden out back, with a simple wooden marker on which I used the router to carve:
