April 2005 After Action Report - Dodge WC-51 Weapons Carrier Restoration

After the wheels where disassembled, I sorted through them to pick the best five and then bead blasted them. The interior received POR-15 rust proofing paint, and the exterior primer and a Krylon Ultra Flat Khaki topcoat.
I choose the Krylon Khaki color because I wanted to restore the truck as a North Africa, Operation Torch vehicle. The British painted their vehicles sand and even a pink shade to better camouflage them in the desert. I've not been able to find any proof the US forces did the same on a broad scale, but I figure some of them must have decided to follow their British allies example and try and make their vehicles blend in a little. Besides… I like the color, and it is available in spray cans at the local hardware store if I ever need to touch up a spot.
My wife bought me a set of car dollies that allow you to push the vehicle around the garage. They work well, but you are still pushing 2.5 tons of truck, so it's not effortless by any means.
I removed the first fender… I had been hitting everything with WD40 for the last couple weeks, and that effort, combined with some heat from a propane torch, got all the bolts off without breakage. On the firewall I found the stenciled labels for "Starter" "Coil" and "Regulator" hook ups. I protected these during future sandblasting and painting and they are still in place on the firewall today.
